Future Centenarians of America
We did some quick research on how to live a long life and found the common thread of advice of experts. No smoking, exercise, diet and an active social life. We also found numerous studies suggesting strong social ties are even more associated with better health and longevity in this age of texting and tweeting.
Research studies at Brigham Young University confirm “Having few friends or weak social ties to the community is just as harmful to health as being an alcoholic or smoking nearly a pack of cigarettes a day. Weak social ties are more harmful than not exercising and twice as risky as being obese.”
As important as it is, social activity is not the only factor to a long life. Dr. Thomas Perls, Boston University, reiterates lifestyle habits, weight control, mental, physical and social actives are the keys to a healthy happy and long life. This is not news to any of us but, but we have to ask ourselves, why don’t we practice what we preach?
In honor of those who have maintained a healthy lifestyle Saint Lucie & Jupiter Lanes created “Future Centenarians of America” Anyone who have reached the age of 90 now bowl in their leagues for FREE.
Now, don’t start laughing before you know the numbers. Because bowling is a non-impact aerobic exercise in a smoke free, stress free environment with social interaction with their friends we estimate we already have 60 bowlers over the age of 80 and now invite those who have reached 90 to come forward and enjoy FREE LEAGUE BOWLING!
Living to be 100 is becoming more common. The last US census estimated by 2050 there will be 800,000 centenarians and maybe more once the 2010 census numbers are calculated.
“We want all of our seniors to continue to be with us, and it’s purely selfish on our part,” stated Saint Lucie Managers Wes Tuten and Lucille Esposito. “We are the one’s who benefit from them, their stories, humor and experiences.”
Sister Entertainment Centers of Jupiter and Port Saint Lucie are true community centers for people of all ages, sports skills and income levels. Few places in South Florida have the Sister Centers Family Entertainment combination of scope, size and staff to put it all together and deliver a satisfying experience.
